GoPro has just lifted the lid on a fresh action-camera line-up. There are three cameras on the card: the Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro and the Mission 1 Pro ILS. Is this the new benchmark for action cams?
GoPro’s long-held lead in the action-camera space is increasingly being challenged. In response, the brand is putting forward what it hopes will become the market’s next essential device: the Mission 1 family, split into the standard Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro and the Mission 1 Pro ILS.
Three GoPro Mission 1 models and their headline specs
All three premium models share a 1-inch, 50-megapixel sensor, paired with a GP3 processor manufactured on a 5 nm process. The Mission 1 records up to 8K at 30 fps, while the other two step up to 8K at 60 fps - and reach as high as 1080p at 960 fps for those who love extreme slow motion.
The most advanced option, the Mission 1 Pro ILS, stands out thanks to its ability to accept a Micro Four Thirds lens. It will work with lenses from OM System as well as Panasonic, making it a strong fit for shooting subjects from further away. Also worth noting: OLED displays that are 14% larger than on the Hero 13.
GoPro Mission 1: the new must-have for stunning footage?
The Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS also support 4:3 open-gate capture. In practice, that means they film using 100% of the sensor area, which makes it much easier to reframe afterwards - whether you want a vertical or a horizontal video.
On the audio side, the Mission 1 cameras feature four 32-bit stereo microphones, along with a wind-noise reduction system.
Built for extreme use: waterproofing, battery life and features
These cameras are designed with demanding sports and outdoor use in mind, including waterproofing down to 20 metres. They use an Enduro 2 battery, and GoPro claims up to three hours of recording in 4K at 30 fps, which should be ample for capturing your feats. We’re also told thermal management is part of the package.
It will be possible to attach a Hero 13 battery to squeeze out a bit more runtime. Finally, as you would expect for this type of product, there’s a long list of modes and tech on board: subject tracking, stabilisation, slow-motion and time-lapse options, a vlog mode, and more.
Availability dates for Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS
The Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro go on sale from 28 May 2026, while the Mission 1 Pro ILS is scheduled for the end of the year. GoPro has not yet announced pricing, but that information should follow soon. Either way, the company is positioning this range as the new reference point for the market - a claim we will be examining very closely when we test it.
