The Finnish Ministry of Defence reported today that a drone entered the country’s airspace via the eastern border it shares with Russia.

In a statement, the ministry said: "It is suspected that an unmanned aerial vehicle violated Finnish airspace in eastern Finland".

The Finnish Air Force detected the drone in the Virolahti area, close to the Russian border.

At this stage, the drone’s origin has not been identified, and it has since left Finnish airspace.

The Ministry of Defence added: "The case is being investigated by the Finnish Border Guard, which will provide more information as the investigation progresses".
