2021 flagships are being retired
Xiaomi has officially ended software support for four smartphone models. According to information published by the Xiaomi Security Centre and the Android Enterprise Recommended list, updates will no longer be released for the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Lite and Redmi Note 12 5G.
End-of-Life (EOL) status for Xiaomi 12 series devices
These handsets have been moved to End-of-Life (EOL) status, meaning a complete halt to OTA updates, security patches and new features. The final software versions for each model are:
- Xiaomi 12 - HyperOS 3.0 on Android 15;
- Xiaomi 12 Pro - HyperOS 3.0 on Android 15;
- Redmi Note 12 5G - HyperOS 2.0 on Android 14;
- Xiaomi 12 Lite - HyperOS 1.0 on Android 14.
Why Xiaomi ended support: hardware limits and HyperOS demands
As reported by XiaomiTime, the decision is linked not only to the age of these models but also to hardware constraints. The Xiaomi 12 series is built on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a chipset often criticised for running hot and for less-than-ideal power efficiency. With HyperOS continuing to evolve into a more resource-intensive system packed with AI features, ongoing support for such devices could have made those drawbacks even more pronounced.
