Designed for laptops
Lenovo has introduced what it describes as the industry’s first laptop-focused silicon-anode battery with an energy density of 1000 Wh/L.
10% higher energy density and the ED1000 battery
According to the company, this represents a 10% increase in energy density compared with the previous generation. It is not a huge jump, but it is still a noticeable improvement. As a result, Lenovo plans to equip selected laptops with the ED1000 battery, offering up to 99.9 Wh of capacity without making the device larger.
"Developed in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, this battery sets a new industry benchmark and opens up new opportunities to extend battery life and optimise form factors in high-performance laptops."
When it will appear in Lenovo notebooks
From the wording of the press release, the battery is not currently used in any existing products and is intended to be fitted to next-generation laptops.
