MacBook Pro M5 Pro gaming on macOS
Even in demanding titles
YouTuber Andrew Tsai, who previously put the MacBook Neo through its paces in games, has now carried out the same sort of testing on a MacBook Pro built around the new M5 Pro SoC. The gap between these machines is enormous, but the key point is to see what gaming is actually like on the new laptop.
In general, there should be no major issues-provided you remember that the overall selection of games on macOS is still fairly limited for now.
Frame rates in specific games
The latest and very demanding Assassin's Creed Shadows delivers roughly 50-60 fps at 2560 x 1440, but that is with medium settings and the upscaler set to Balance. By comparison, the noticeably less demanding Lies of P reaches about 80 fps at the same resolution, with no upscaler at all and using high settings.
Cyberpunk 2077 runs at around 60 fps on high settings with the upscaler in Quality mode, although that is without ray tracing.
The recent Resident Evil Requiem also performs well, and it does so via CrossOver 26. Despite the additional compatibility layer, it is possible to achieve 60-70 fps with the upscaler (Balance) and settings on Normal.
Overall, you can play modern, demanding games without any particular trouble-even in a non-native mode. The M5 Pro really does come with a very powerful 20-core GPU.
