Ukrainian drone strike in Moscow, 10 km from the Kremlin

A Ukrainian drone hit a residential building in Moscow today, around 10 km from the Russian Presidency (the Kremlin), according to the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.

“In Moscow, a drone struck one of the towers of the ‘Don na Mosfilmovskoi’ residential building,” Sobyanin wrote on MAX, Russia’s equivalent of Telegram.

Damage reported and air defences response

Sobyanin said there were no casualties. He also stated that Moscow’s air defences intercepted two other drones that were heading towards the metropolis.

The Telegram channel Baza reported that the impact damaged the building’s façade and some of its windows.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ said the attack was carried out using an FP-1 ‘kamikaze’ drone, with a range of up to 1,600 kilometres and a maximum payload of 120 kilograms of explosives.

Airport disruption and Russian Defence Ministry figures

According to the Spanish news agency EFE, several explosions from drones being shot down were heard in the south of Moscow during the early hours.

Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports, south of the Russian capital, suspended operations for several hours due to the drone threat.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said on MAX that 117 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were shot down over 14 Russian regions, including Moscow.
