Finnish Ministry of Defence reports drone entering Finnish airspace from Russia border

The Finnish Ministry of Defence reported on Sunday that a drone entered Finland’s airspace from across the eastern border it shares with Russia.

In a statement, the ministry said: "It is suspected that an unmanned aerial vehicle has violated Finnish airspace in eastern Finland".

Detection near the eastern border with Russia

Finland’s Air Force detected the drone in the Virolahti area, close to the Russian border.

At this stage, the origin of the aircraft has not been confirmed, and it has since left Finnish airspace.

Investigation by the Finnish Border Guard

The Ministry of Defence added: "The case is being investigated by the Finnish Border Guard, which will provide more information as the investigation progresses".
